Whistlers
From HOTGT
Whistlers believe themselves to be born from the legendary Great Serpent, the protector of the forest which coils through the roots of every tree in the world. Because of this, they believe themselves to be the caretakers of nature. Their society is built on principles of conservation. For every gift they take from the world's bounty they feel they must give one. Nothing is ever thrown away. Any item a Whistler uses will be repaired until it is irrepairable and then it is used as part of something else – clothes become patches and rags,utensils become pegs or parts of art. Whistlers never use metal. Ever. They believe the processes of smelting and forging to be unnatural.

Personality
| “ | It is when nature is not revered that darkness reigns in the hearts of men. | ” |
| —Quick River, Whistler Ranger, | ||
Whistlers are known for their calm and quiet natures. They can be languid, sitting or laying in one place for hours at a time and just watching the world around them. Actions are always carefully considered and rash action never taken. When Whistlers do take action, however, they are decisive and fierce and capable of both great passion and great rage. During the war with the Daemon Horde, the Forest Southern was one of the few territories that totally repelled the enemy.
Physical Description
Whistlers range from 4 to 5 feet in height and weight usually ranges from 75 to 100 pounds. They are humanoid but reptillian, with smooth skin that ranges in color from light blue to dark green to crimson, often with gold or silver highlights on the chest and neck. Whistler eyes are large and yellow, with slitted pupils.
Lifespan
The average life-span for a Whistler is three hundred years. In Whistler society adulthood is reached at around the age of 50.
Relations with other races
Since the war, Whistlers have begun exploring the world, with hopes of helping the land recover from the ravages of battle. They find other races both perplexing and disturbing, especially in their attitudes towards nature. In return, other races tend to find the Whistlers alien. Whistlers tend to be quiet people, able to spend hours at a time in each other's company without saying a word. That often unnerves the shorter-lived races.
