Background
Hill was a clever youth, and decent student if lazy student and worker. He would carefully pour over his requirements, and figure the easiest course, frequently defeating the intent. He had a good memory and seemed always able to get by with his intellect. Still, he managed to reach high marks, and get into CalTech. After graduating near the top of his class, he found a comfortable position in a major defense contractor Intellisoft in their research and development department. He gave himself adequate notes and relied heavily on those around to remember the details while he kept an overview. This worked well, and he rose quickly through the ranks. he didn't realize Intellisoft was a ruthless organization with no ethics. One day he was asked to visit a test site, only to discover that one of his weapons systems was being field tested in Afganistan. His robot drones killed dozens of people before his eyes. He quit immediately and went to work on human remote controlled weapons in a small start up.He was developing a remote controlled tank, when he discovered his start up was purchased by Intellisoft. Vowing that his inventions would not fall into their hands, he began to erase all the data from his project. Intellisoft hired some mercenaries to take the prototype and any records they could find. He stood in the way.He put on the control unit and tried to activate the tank. The details were too complex, and he lacked the training. But he concentrated and poured over the schematics trying to get it running by himself. There wasn't time to learn all of the operating controls, but in an act of desperation, he reversed the input outputs on the control unit and plugged into the computer plans for the tank.Hoping to "download" the plans into his mind, and learn how to operate the tank, he engaged the system. He was filled with energy and information, and the control unit burst into flames. He was unable to operate the tank, but when he tried, he managed to fry the brains of the mercs sent in by intellisoft. After the incident he quit the field and did some soul searching. He spent most of his savings housing the mercenaries who he lobotomized in a special wing of the state mental hospital in Napa, CA. He also started to work for SciTech as a fellow. It was there that he began to explore his abilities and learned that he had impossibility powers. The sub-routines of the remote controlled tank he was working on had embedded themselves in his brain allowing him to telepathically, and telekinetically duplicate the capabilities of the tank. He could move rapidly along the ground, create beams of force, cover himself in psychic shielding and project that shielding in various ways. In addition he was able to communicate mentally with other people and computers.
After an attack on the SciTech HQ by Chaos Factor, he took the name Think Tank, and joined in its defense. He hooked up with the Paradox Patrol and became a new member along with Major Havok.
He continued to serve the team for some time, but eventually quit SciTech when it looked like its leader Emma Brody was taking the company down a similar path as Intellisoft (and they cut his funding). IT turned out to plot of the Queen Dragon, but Mark decided he preferred not to have his research used without his consent. So he founded underHill Technologies and worked as a contractor for a number of other companies doing his best to keep his inventions out of the hands of military and the paramilitary.
Two incidents stand out in his tenure in the Paradox Patrol
1. When fighting the Logromyths, he was bathed in Chaos Energy which altered his powers, in some respects making them less useful (they became visible, attached to his body, and needed to be aimed), but overall more powerful.
2. He discovered that the CPU of the remote control tank he was working on during his origin had in fact survived and gained a measure of sentience by copying his mental patterns. This robotic doppelganger was placed in a dangerous robot body by Intellisoft and gained autonomy during ill-fated military testing. Dubbed the Thinking Tank, this creature is intelligent, and menacing, trying to rid the world of the parasite called humanity. Think Tank sees this creature as his offspring (however illegitimate) and vows to bring to the good side.
Recently Mark Hill discovered some technological advances that have granted him financial independence without the need to do much in the way of work. He can now live off the proceeds of these patents and dedicate his life to being a hero, and inventor hobbiest.
The Past, a look into Think Tank's past, before he became an i-hero.
