Robert Cain's sister took up the bloodgem in order to save herself from cancer. However, she used that power as part of Chaos Factor, to hurt others. Robert began training himself in enchanting so that he could track down his sister and stop her. He was forced to come out of training when the Sharooth invaded. For a brief time he was a member of the Paradox Patrol but eventually left to track down his sister. During his journey he met and joined with the Witching Hour.
