September 2517: On Persephone

Our first paying job is nearly complete. I lay here, waiting for morning, in a cozy safe house room courtesy of the Lucky Four Fingers Tong. Did I mention, I'm related in part to some of the members? Never you mind, my safety. Theys not nearly as bad as you like to think; at least for family. You see, here on Persephone, I met a most civilized man by the name of John Woo. Learned interesting things about the rival Tong in the area and gained a safe house location after retrieval of our cargo.

I suppose I should back up and explain how I ended up on Persephone from Paquin. You see, my Ma always gave me instructions; when I am in trouble, I can show them this here coin I carry in a locket around my neck. Mind you, I wouldn't say I had great bodily harm trouble, but more trouble in lacking work and funds to fuel and fix the Mao's Claw. As well, I comes to find out, Vincent's last cargo, which floats out in the black as we speak, were contracted under my Great Uncle Birui, a high ranking member of the tong. So I went to see my Uncle. Don't you worry your head about Vincent and Del. After a suitable trade and assurances that they were safely under my watchful eye, my Uncle was kind enough to leave them be and to give us a job.

As an aside, he done given me additional insight to the picture of my Pa. He said to investigate the Beta White Camp. It's taken me one step closer to I don't know where, but when I get there, I'll know.

Now you see, here's my problem as it became clear. Arriving on Persephone this morning, we ran into a might bit of ma fuhn. A few members of my crew got too trigger happy, skipping the important trade of words for the trade of shots. Landed me with another bullet to my arm. Now, I don't care for cussin but I'd just rutting healed that arm. Seems I need to have a heart to heart talk to the crew. Explain the rules. As I've mentioned some time before, I don't take killing a life too lightly. It eats you up inside and without someone there to heal that invisible wound, it leaves nothing but a dry husk in its place. This penchant to shoot first and parley later is merely a first step down that path. That and sure as the black is black, we ain't uncivilized on this ship.

Vincent Locke surprised me this evening. You see, we went to a high society type ball. Normally I wouldn't have gone except needing to retrieve stolen property that were ours. Anyway, it was only understandable that Vincent, a man of high tastes, should fit right good in. Yet he seemed rather subdued, almost melancholy. He knew all about High Society like that I could tell. Still, that glimmer in his eyes I learned to see, just waren't in him. I've had this image of Vincent as a lady's man. He could sweet talk a damsel at thirty paces and still have his whiskey. Not this evening, though, he kept his mind focused on the task at hand. Never an eye to the ladies did he have. There were no flirtatiousness or other such business from him. Made me take a second look at the former captain turned pilot that I hired. I guess it goes to show, rumors is just that: rumors. Not only that, he surely seemed to care about Del. He never took his eyes off her the whole time. I didn't blame him considering she had the most dangerous part of the mission. I, myself, sure was glad to see her safely back to us later that evening.

James Heru has officially become a member of my crew. That was before I found out he were alliance military. At least that's what the pristine military uniform suggested. I found myself a might bit speechless. Though I guess I don't know the whole story and won't make judgementals until he has had time sufficient to explain. Though two strikes hit when he walked out of the ball with a high ranking Colonel of the Alliance Military. His lack of consideration, got him into some sort of trouble as Fin informed us he was on his way a saving James. I'm not entirely sure what that meant and was a might bit disappointed to have our plans upset. Still, I commend Fin for being watchful of a fellow crew member and going to his aid. I guess when I get back to the Mao's Claw, I'll find out the story and make sure there ain't no alliance spies poking around. Though I see no reason why they'd care for a ragtag group such as we are.
