end the Ethereals won the war, driving the Nocturnes out. The war destroyed their military might and their economy, driving the Ethereals into ruin. The empire collapsed. The Ethereals turned inward, desperately trying to preserve their knowledge and culture. When the Horde came, the Ethereals were the hardest hit and much of there kingdom was devastated. People and animals died. The land was rendered uninhabitable. Ethereals who once ruled an empire now had to throw themselves upon the mercy of their former subjects.

Patron Deity
The Ethereals as a race are watched over by Ethera, god of sunlight, scholarship, and agriculture. Some wonder why Ethera has allowed his favored race to suffer so but others point out that true knowledge can't be given. It must be learned.

The Ethereal today often show a brave face, attempting to retain an aura of authority, beauty, and culture. Beneath that thin and cracked mask, however, there is a defeated people who are unsure of both their identity and their future.
Physical Description
Ethereals stand between 5 and 7 feet in height, with a weight ranging between one hundred and two hundred pounds. They tend towards lithe in build, though they can and do grow rotund without exercise. Their skin is extremely light and seems to almost glow. The eyes are a silverish white in color and their hair is always white as well, though they can have highlights of almost any color. Most Ethereals get facial tattoos when they come of age to denote their clan affiliation.
Lifespan
Ethereals have an average life span of one hundred years and are considered adults at the age of sixteen.
Relations with other races
Ethereals still believe, on some level, that they should rule other races and this can cause friction. On the other hand, some of those races that prospered under Aerynth rule, especially Humans and Two-Forms, often still defer to Ethereals as the keepers of true culture.

+2 Intelligence, -2 Strength. The Ethereals tend to pursue the study of magic over martial skills. They make formidable scholars but poor fighters.
Size
Medium: As Medium sized creatures, Whistlers have no special bonuses or penalties due to their size.
Base Speed
Whistler base land speed is 30 feet.
Special Abilities
- Lowlight Vision (Natural Ability): Ethereals can see twice as far as a human in starlight, moonlight, torchlight, and similar conditions of poor illumination. They retain the ability to distinguish color and detail under these conditions.
- +2 racial bonus on all Knowledge checks. Ethereals value learning and scholarship above all else.
- Innate magic (Spell-like Ability): Ethereals with Intelligence scores of 10 or higher may use the following 0-level spells as spell-like abilities once per day, each: Dancing Lights, Flare, Light, and Detect Magic.
